National Diaper Need Awareness Week

Austin Diaper Bank is celebrating National Diaper Need Awareness Week.

Join us by making a contribution to the Austin Diaper Bank and supporting families in Central Texas.

The Austin Diaper Bank will celebrate national Diaper Need Awareness Week (Sept. 25-Oct. 1) with an open house at its warehouse to thank the community, donors, volunteers and partners for their support of the Austin Diaper Bank’s recent Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, during which more than 750,000 baby and adult diapers were distributed to hurricane-impacted areas throughout Texas.

The open house will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Austin Diaper Bank, 8711 Burnet Road, Suite B-34.

The event also will be the first opportunity for many to meet new Austin Diaper Bank Executive Director Holly McDaniel, who joined the nonprofit on Aug. 22

“Diaper Need Awareness Week is a great time for the public to learn how the diapers distributed year-round by the Austin Diaper Bank make a difference for thousands of Central Texas families who struggle to afford diapers,” McDaniel said. “Diaper need impacts an estimated 12,000 babies and toddlers in Travis County alone, in addition to a growing number of adults.”

“Diaper need” is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant, toddler or senior clean, dry and healthy. Disposable diapers are typically a requirement of most childcare centers or other childhood education programs – without childcare, parents cannot go to work. Federal assistance programs, such as SNAP and WIC, do not cover diapers.

Diaper Need Awareness Week is an initiative of the National Diaper Bank Network, of which the Austin Diaper Bank is a member. In Texas, Diaper Need Awareness Week has been recognized with a proclamation from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Austin Diaper Bank helps close the "diaper gap" in the community by distributing donated or purchased baby and adult diapers to more than 40 partner agencies, in a region from Georgetown to San Marcos. Since the organization’s founding in June 2013, it has delivered about 750,000 diapers locally. Learn more at www.austindiaperbank.org, or follow on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
