Where our diapers go: Email requests

Where do our diapers go? People you know, quite likely. We hear from single moms, dads who have been laid off of work, grandmothers who are keeping their grandkids while the parent works. Here are just a few messages we have received to show how easy it can be to need assistance (details have been changed to protect anonymity).

  • I'm seeking assistance because I have had a decrease in hours at work and my daughter's father is not helping with her expenses.
  • I am a foster mom. With having four kids, my partner and I have decided to have her stay at home with them, putting a financial strain on our family. We have three in diapers and are wondering if you are able to help foster parents out?
  • Hi, my name is Sofia and I'm a 21 yr old single mom to newborn twin girls. I'm wondering if there's any way that you know of that I could get extremely discounted or possibly free diapers or coupons. They're going through about one pack of 27 premie diapers a day together. I'm on food stamps and wic and I get health coverage, but none of those things help with diapers. I'm recovering from a c section, so I haven't been able to go back to work yet, I'm getting some help from my mom, working minimum wage would barely cover daycare if I went back now anyway.
If you'd like to help your fellow neighbors, donate here. Thank you for your support.

What do we we always need? Size 4 diapers.

We never have enough size 4 diapers at Austin Diaper Bank. There are many reasons for this. One, babies grown fast, then that growth slows, often when toddlers are in size 4 diapers. So parents often have smaller sizes to give away (thank you!) but they hold on to those size 4's because their kids need them. Also, when kind souls donate diapers, they often get the newborn and smaller sizes. If you would like to support working single moms get to work, buy some size 4 diapers so their little ones can get to daycare. We have 7 drop-off locations around town. Thank you!

Our Move Sponsored by Longhorn Car and Truck Rental!

The awesome folks at Longhorn Car and Truck Rental are providing a truck so we can get our diapers to their new home! Their donation saves valuable dollars in moving costs, meaning more money for diapers and diaper bank operations. We love working with local businesses to help our community! Check them out here.

Austin Diaper Bank Gets Its Own Space!

We are so pleased to announce that Austin Diaper Bank will be moving into the Lamar Business Park at 5555 N. Lamar Blvd. Our space will allow us to store and package diapers, including space for groups of volunteers to come and help out. We even have a small baby/toddler play area, so parents can bring their little ones to volunteer alongside them.  Our first office space is so important as we have been operating out of the home of the executive director, who is up to her ears in diapers. This week, we will be moving 22,000 diapers from SW Austin to our new home in north central Austin. Hooray!

Recycling Can Help Us Win Diapers From Terracycle

Austin Diaper Bank accepts diaper packaging and wipe packaging for recycling through a company called Terracycle. Terracycle creates new products from the plastic and pays us a couple of cents each for each package. These pennies add up.  Terracycle has now teamed up with Huggies to award 10 cases of diapers to lucky recyclers each month until the end of the year. So now we can keep this plastic waste out of our landfills AND have the chance to win free diapers. All you have to do to help is keep your diaper and wipe packaging (no boxes- just the plastic wrapping) until you have collected a handful or so, then drop them into one of our donation bins around town. Click here for locations. Thank you!

Our DiaperABILITY Program

Austin Diaper Bank assists those with diaper need of all ages but we recently decided to form a specific program to focus on those who need a bit more help.  Some children and adults with special needs and disabilities need diapers for a long time, which translates to a very high cost.  Our DiaperABILITY Program aims to provide diapering supplies to those with disabilities or other special needs who are also low-income.  Several non-profits in the Austin area, including Kids At The Crossroads, Foster Angels of Central Texas, HAND (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled), among others, do great work with children and the elderly with special needs. We provide these organizations with diapers and they provide clients with many different resources including counseling, skilled nursing, education and more. DiaperABILITY is ready to help those in our community to need a little extra care.
